BETHESDA, Md. -- Co-leader Tom Pernice, Jr. set the AT&T National tournament course record with a 7-under-par 63 on Friday. The low score at Congressional CC at previous PGA TOUR co-sponsored events was a 63 set by Matt Gogel (note: routing was different and par was 71 at the time) in the first round in 2005 at the Booz Allen Classic.

STEVE STRICKER: It was one of those rounds where a lot of good things happened. Got off to a great start. Hit 4 iron on 10 that just rolled through the green and ended up in the bunker. And when you can break 10 and 11 with birdies your first two holes of the day, it's a good start and sets up rest of the day.
